The Underdogs (Los de Abejo) The below video depicts Azuela’s… The Underdogs (Los de Abejo)The below video depicts Azuela’s experiences as a doctor during the Mexican Revolution. As mentioned, Azuela helped the revolutionaries, including Pancho Villa; however, the work itself deals with fictional characters who search for revolutionary conquests, including the peasant Demetrio Macías, the educated Luis Cervantes, and the devious Güero Margarito. This work illustrates similar themes that we have seen in other works in this course: the modern feeling of isolation, hopelessness, and a lack of purpose. Through this work, we not only learn more about the Mexican revolution, we also learn just how similar the issues humanity faced at the turn of the century. This work was made into a movie in 1940, and it is in Spanish. However, it is interesting to see how the director, Chano Urueta, portrayed the characters and setting in this novel. The Underdogs (Los de Abejo)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxHcW8kR5MQ&t=2s     (You will have to use the subtitle to read in English) 1) What is the theme of Mariano Azuela’s The Underdogs?
